What type of work have you done?
I’ve been a pool hall operator and restaurateur, a merchant mariner and an advocate in industrial relations. I’ve also taught in a private post-secondary facility. For the last ten years, I’ve been a researcher.
How do you identify yourself in terms of religion/spirituality?
As an Atoothfairiest.
What are some of your reasons for joining CFI?
I wanted to find a community of like-minded people and I do so enjoy a good argument and the occasional bad one
Which books or movies have had a big impact on you?
I think I’ve seen almost everything by Christopher Hitchens, and I really enjoyed his book “Letters to a Young Contrarian.” Hitchens was a very influential voice on a number of topics. I do like a lot of Sam Harris’s work, and also PZ Myers, who is a great apologist for “our” side and has a great sense of humour. Another great book is ” A Brief History of Time” by Stephen Hawking. One of my favourite film directors is Stanley Kubrick, who directed “2001 A Space Odyssey.” Anything by Aaron Sorkin on TV is worth watching.
What are some of the defining moments that have led you to the point where you are now, in a religious/spiritual sense?
Religion/Spirituality is not something that pops into my head, unless someone brings up a view that I find suspect or objectionable. I was never indoctrinated, and I never gave or give much contemplation to spiritual matters — it’s just not something I think about.
